England vs Malta
Rashford over Bowen tells you all you need to know about Southgate.

Foden should be left and Bowen right.

That’s a penalty to Macedonia isn’t it?
The lumbering oaf Maguire needlessly gives it away to set up a 2 on 2 break for them then falls over in the area into their player and knocks him over. Surely that’s a pen.

Antonio pulled up with something, probably a hamstring, playing for Jamaica this morning.

Some weird decisions from Southgate - but we did just thrash Italy and qualify with two games to spare.

Henderson. Maguire.

Says it all. The prick is picking them to be obnoxious now.

Hopefully this means no more talk of ‘Trent’ in midfield.

Too many games are pointless but it's been like that for years with the likes of San Marino and Luxembourg. In this tournament Cyprus, Gibraltar, Malta, Faroe Islands, Estonia, Bulgaria, San Marino, Andorra and Liechtenstein haven't won a game. Gibraltar haven't scored a goal and the others have scored 5 or less. Pointless opponents in more ways than one!

International football today is just a distraction and have no interest in it at all. Would rather replace it with a European break where those clubs in Europe play their games and those not can sort out fixture congestion.
Just put the best teams in the world Cup and scrap the likes of Scotland etc

Re: England vs Malta
Can understand the 'excuse' that most of the players have more important games coming up (Man City v Liverpool next Saturday , Henderson has a local derby at the Camelfucker Stadium on Sunday) and knew they would win so were fairly lowkey
England have qualified and understand they are in the top group winners so will be in Pot 1 for the finals.

That said it was another wasted 'friendly' for Southgate.
Kane plays the whole match and apart from using Trent AA in midfield he has learnt little else. Apart from being able to ignore Tomori in future by hanging him out to dry as a left back
Bowen may as well book a holiday for next June & obviously JWP is never going to be picked.

Elsewhere ...
Callum Marshall only given 5 mins as N Ireland are hammered 4-0 in Finland
Soucek scores the equaliser in Poland that means the Czechs need only a point at home to Moldova on Monday to qualify

I don't imagine anyone would expect to have ZERO shots on target until after the hour mark?

And while I generally think that XG is a crock of shit, they had an XG of 0.1 at half time, versus ours of 0.05, and had had more shots than us.

It was unspeakably and inexcusably bad, regardless of prior qualification.

Don't know what people were expecting, as a glorified friendly as England were already qualified. Largely thanks to doing the double against Italy, who are currently 7th in the world rankings.

I didn't watch much of it before I got bored but it's been that way for ages unless it's a really important game. Southgate is just a typical by-product of the amateurs that run the FA.

I've observed that whenever we go into a tournament final stage, the players start out bright and motivated but tail off towards the end of the tournament.

That's after spending a few weeks in a hotel with the most boring man in Britain...

Re: England vs Malta
I know I'm in the minority and appreciate that Southgate isn't the best coach in the world, but I wasn't against him having one more (likely last) crack at a big one, and I do believe we can win the Euro's. I've never been convinced that England would just sweep all before them with another coach. Suppose we will find out in 2026 how shit, or good, Southgate has been.

Was out so only caught the last few mins when Rice goal was disallowed. I was expecting 6 or 7 nil so was a tad surprised at just 2.

I then watched the last 10 mins and thought thank fuck I was out, bleeding dire

I laughed out loud at the audible groan to 6 more mins

In summary Southgate is a fraud who got lucky with a decent team, when he tries to rotate he gets found out massively re his tactical ineptness

Thought Malta did ok, England all a bit predictable, did laugh when Harry Kane got booked for the dive, well done the ref.

Re: England vs Malta
So this whole thread is everyone just bitching about Southgate, how dull and predictable. I'll wait until the Euro's to do that, if need be,

Re: England vs Malta
Just looking at the subs bench
Kane played the entire match while Watkins sat and watched
Kalvin Phillips REPRISED his Man City position by sitting on his arse on the bench while Rice came on
As said Saka came on while Bowen sat and watched too
That Rico Lewis who IS a left back looked on as he put Tomori ... a centre half ... in that position

Quite strange

zico 1:14 Sat Nov 18
Re: England vs Malta
Just seen Southgate state that he had to play players out of position like Tomori at left back. Couldn't he have shoved Trippier there and put either Walker or the over rated Liverpool Trent at right back? After all Klopp doesn't play Trent in midfield does he?
